Mariners, Rays complete six-player trade involving Logan Morrison, Nate Karns

The baseball season may be over, but the hotstove is just heating up.The Mariners and Rays got the ball rolling onoffseason transactions Thursday with a six-player trade. The Rays announcedtheyacquired infielder BradMiller, first baseman LoganMorrison and relief pitcher Danny Farquhar Corey Dickerson Jersey in exchange for pitcher Nathan Karns, relief pitcher C.J. Miller, who can play anarray of positions, may adopt the utlity role vacated byBen Zobrist.Morrison, 28, hit .225 with 17 home runs and 54 RBIs in 146 games this season, his first time appearing in at least 100 games since 2011. With first base open for the Mariners, they may decide to attack a free-agent cla s headlined by Chris Davis.Farquhar, 28, went 1-8 with a 5.12 ERAin 43 appearanceswith the Mariners in 2015. Since the All-Star breakhowever,he registered a 3.48 ERA.He has a career 3.96 ERA over parts of four seasons in the majors, all with the Mariners, including 16 saves in 2013, which led AL rookies.Karns, who will 29 next season, went 7-5 with a 3.67 ERA and led AL rookies with 26 starts, 147 innings and 145 strikeouts. He allowed two runs or fewer in 19 of his starts, a Rays rookie record and tied for fifth in the AL.Riefenhauser, 25, went 1-0 with a 5.52 ERA this seasonbut his best performance came after his September call-up, when he recorded a 2.16 ERAin 11 games. Riefenhauser was a20th-round selection by the Rays in the 2010 draft.Powell, 22, split the season between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham and ranked third in the Rays’ minor league system with a combined .295 batting average. The left-handed hitter batted .328/.408/.416 for Montgomery, was named a Southern League midseason All-Star and earned a late-June promotion to Durham. He combined for three home runs, 40 RBIs, 66 runs scored, 18 stolen bases and a .385 on-base percentage.He was acquired from the Athletics as part of a Chris Archer Jersey five-player trade Jan. 10.
